Dear Miss Kallin,

Thank you for your letter and for the scripts. I will piece together something on the lines of the pages you have marked, making the necessary re-wording as I go. I think “Empiricist Liberalism” might do for a title,1 not “Western Democracy”, because I do not want a geographical implication. I suppose that this is to be under a general title “Contemporary Thought”.

I am amused by what you say about Haldane. He wrote to my publisher saying there was one subject upon which he profoundly disagreed with me, namely Aristotle’s biology. I had supposed there were also other matters of disagreement.

    “Empiricist Liberalism” might do for a title The manuscript was titled “Empiricism and Democracy”, the BBC script “Science and Democracy”. The Listener published it as “A Scientist’s Plea for Democracy” (16 Jan. 1947; B&R C47.02; reprinted as 25 in Collected Papers 24).
