My dear Irina
Thank you for your very nice letter. The reason you have been treated so much worse than Derek is that I mind ruining Conrad and the other party does not. However, when I am in London during the winter I hope to have liberty, and if you are ever in London we may meet? My anger, which was unphilosophical, has more or less subsided, but a profound contempt remains.
Don’t bother to say anything to Derek unless you have to — it won’t do any good, as you say.
I can’t ascertain who the chaperon was, but if the knowledge happens to come your way you might let me know.
Love from
B
