My very warmest thanks for letter, poem, and lovely jade dog. The sonnet is incredibly Shakespearian, and admirable, but there is one couplet where the metre seems inadequate: the one beginning “now the monitory”.

I am glad Stefan thinks I am not old, but his opinion on my nose seems more accurate. It is very good news about your prospects on your return from the bonnie Hielands. I did enjoy your visit, though it was so brief. Next term I shall only be here on Wednesday nights and Thursday days. With love to all three of you,
