My dear Gamel
I am more sorry than I can say, but Monday is impossible. Peter has been sent to a nursing home in London and wants me to be with her during the time I can spare in London. Quite private. She attempted suicide and very nearly succeeded, and threatens to make further attempts unless I succeed in comforting her.
She will soon go to N. Wales1 and after that I shall hope to see you. I have been through a very bad time. Love.

She will soon go to N. Wales They had bought a cottage, Penralltgoch, in Llan Ffestiniog and were having it renovated. (It had been temporarily the location of Summerhill School.) Since it was not yet ready Peter would stay at the Pengwern Arms nearby. The Russells had friends close by who could keep an eye on her.
