Dear Bill,
I am sorry not to have answered your letter sooner, but I was not certain what answer to give. I am going to Switzerland to give some Lectures1 as soon as my Term here finishes, and it turns out that I shall be kept there too long to be able to go to Dartington before you break up. We toyed with the idea of Peter and Conrad going without me, but on the whole the journey and the fatigue seemed excessive, as she still has to take care of herself. We shall, of course, come down during the Autumn Term when Conrad is with you; as your guests if you can have us, and if not at the Hotel.
Conrad is intelligent, but not, I think, academically advanced, except in Geography, of which his knowledge is prodigious. If you ask him to mention the six highest mountains in New Zealand with their altitudes, he will do so without a moment’s hesitation, and he is equally at home in the Caucasus or the Andes. I think he will be good academically, as he has a very good memory, but he has suffered from frequent moves, and it has not seemed important that he should acquire knowledge early. At school, after an initial period during which he was teased for using long words, he got on very well with the other children, as he is cheerful and spirited and good-natured.
Peter and Conrad went back to Wales yesterday. For the present they are at the Hotel Portmerion, Penrhyndeudraeth. I shall go up there as soon as I return from Switzerland.
Love to you both,
Yours ever,
<signed> B.R.
