Dear Sirs
I am grateful to you for undertaking to defray my expenses while in Sweden. I hope you will not think me ungracious if I suggest that you should do so, in part, by supplying me with cash; it is unpleasant to have to account for every penny. Would you be prepared to agree to the following arrangement: (1) that you pay my hotel bill in Stockholm, at a cheap hotel at which Lady Constance Malleson has undertaken to book my room, (2) that you should supply me with the Swedish equivalent of £50? This latter sum to be paid to me on arrival, as I am not allowed to bring any cash. In return, I will write an article for you, and/or broadcast, and undertake any moderate amount of engagements. I hope this plan is agreeable to you. If it is not, I should have to consider seriously whether I could come. Instead of your paying the hotel bill, it would suit me equally well if you paid me what, on an economical computation, it should amount to.
Yours faithfully
Bertrand Russell
