Dear H.G.,
I am so sorry to hear that you have not been well. I had been looking forward to seeing you. You sent me a very nice cable when I won a partial victory over old Barnes, and my wife assures me that I never replied, which causes me remorse.
My wife is very sorry never to have met you. She says that she has run a temperature whenever the prospect arose. We both hope it may arise again when you are feeling better.
Yours ever,
<signed> Russell.
