My dear Bessie
I very much enjoyed my visit to you — old friends grow fewer, and one values them more and more — I marvel at your housekeeping — infinite hot water, enough warmth, and admirable food — in these days, a triumph!
My preference for telegraphing was justified by my receiving this morning a letter from you written on 23 Dec.
Peter sends love — she deeply regrets having been unable to come.
