Notes and topics

Re the Taits' visit to Wales, BR remarks that if an interesting event should be due, "I think Cripps, for all his austerity, would allow something better than a manger."

BR will want to talk about Eastern Europe with Charles Tait. "I should not advise going to live there, as it would probably involve liquefaction, which is unpleasant except for St. Jannarius."

BR's travels: just off to a congress at the Hague. Then Sweden for a lecture tour, returning May 31. "In August I go for a week to a philosophical congress at Amsterdam, and in early October I go to Norway for the British Council." BR tells Kate to address "Ffestiniog", "if you like pedantry".

Dear Kate

Thank you for your letter of April 16. It is all right about your air ticket. Thos. Cook and Son wrote to me and said I could pay your ticket if your passport is British. That is why I cabled, as I feared you might have got an American passport on marriage. I have now paid for your passage both ways. I suppose Charlie will pay his own. It is legally impossible for me to pay it. By the way, I suppose you know you will be allowed to return to U.S.?

We shall be in Wales when you arrive but we shall expect you both. Our cottage is small and we shall have to put you at the Inn, but I think you will be less uncomfortable than Our Lord’s parents. If an interesting event should be due, I think Cripps, for all his austerity, would allow something better than a manger.

All you tell me about Charlie is very interesting. I shall like to talk about E. Europe with him. I should not advise going to live there, as it would probably involve liquefaction, which is unpleasant except for St. Jannarius.

I am just off to a congress at the Hague. Then I go to Sweden for a lecture tour, returning May 31. In August I go for a weeka to a philosophical congress at Amsterdam, and in early October I go to Norway for the British Council. The rest of the Long Vacation I shall be in Wales.

It will be delightful to see you, and I look forward to making Charlie’s acquaintance. I shall hope to make him laugh. Love.

Your aff
Diddy
