Dear Kate
Thank you for your letter. I shall like very much seeing a copy of your thesis. I hope it will be liked by the authorities.
You can of course do as you like about when you see Amiel, but you must let the repatriation people know if you don’t want to sail till August. Also you will have to find your own expenses — I am having to borrow to meet my passage and Peter’s and Conrad’s living after I sail. I assume you are able to earn enough to keep yourself and pay for your holiday with Amiel.
We have this house till June 15. By then I expect to be gone, and we don’t know where Peter and Conrad will be. As long as I am in this country, I shall of course be delighted if you come to us, but after I am gone there will be neither room nor money to spare.
Conrad was delighted with his birthday present from you. It arrived the day before, and we kept it till the morning. His health is now all right.
I may sail any day, or possibly not till July — there is no way of knowing. The time of uncertainty is disagreeable. I am glad that, apart from Amiel, you wish to return to England. For my part, I am anxious to get home in time to see John.
Goodbye dear Kate. Love from
Diddy.
