My dear Kate
The little letter I wrote in reply to yours was very inadequate, but I was in a great hurry. Yours gave me a great deal of pleasure. I feel, however, that I ought to warn both you and Amiel against imprudence. He risks military punishment and you risk expulsion from Radcliffe without a degree. So a little prudence for the next few months is highly desirable. The adventure you described was very risky!
I was delighted by your ϕβκ1 success, more so than appeared at the moment, in the middle of other troubles. If you write a statement for the Court of Chancery on your grounds for wishing to stay in USA, send it here, not to NYC. I will forward it to Tylor.
I shall go home during the summer whatever happens, if I can get a passage. Peter and Conrad will probably stay on, as she still dreads Lisbon.
As for dates: I lecture in Chicago on Wed. March 22, and in Northampton Mass on Mon. March 27. I could therefore spend Friday to Monday, 24–27, at Cambridge, if that suits you. If you are going to have exams or something at that time, please let me know.
Good luck to you and much love
Yr aff
