The divorce from Dora was very unfortunate (for Kate and John).

My dear Kate
John and his family arrived safely, and I have seen a great deal of him and Susan, all the more owing to Peter and Conrad being in Wales. I find, rather to my surprise, that I like her very much. I think she is a good wife for John, and I am pleased with her devotion to him. <lines excised by K. Tait> John seems happier and saner than at any time since he was 10. If he can get a job here, all should go well. <lines excised>
I quite see your reasons for not coming to England this year. Most certainly, I am genuinely interested in your troubles, and glad if you care to tell them to me.
The reason you got out of the way of relying on your mother or me was obviously the divorce, when our adult affairs got in the way. It caused both you and John to shut yourselves up. It was very unfortunate.
If you come to Europe next summer I can certainly help you with money, both to come over and to go to Germany. I have never before been so well off as I am now. I shall finish this summer my big book on Human Knowledge, its scope and limits.
Much love, dear Kate. All well here.
Your aff
Diddy
