My dear Gilbert,

Thank you for your letter. I agree with you that our country is less liable to fits of hysteria than most others. I am glad you liked what I said in the introduction to Corliss Lamont’s book. I did not know that you had given his mother an introduction to me. I haven’t read Toynbee’s Historian’s Approach to Religion. I imagine I should disagree with it. I become increasingly anti-religious with advancing years.
