BR TO GILBERT MURRAY, 16 NOV. 1952

Dear Gilbert,

Thank you for sending me your Presidential Address. I was interested in your telepathic experiments. I believe in telepathy because the evidence seems overwhelming, but most of the psychical stuff leaves me cold. As for precognition in North Carolina, I adopt the correct scientific maxim, which is to accept the simplest hypothesis; but as it would be libellous to mention the simplest hypothesis, I shall say no more. What you say on the subject seems to me entirely just. Perhaps after the new amendments in the libel law you will be able to say it more shortly.

I am charmed by the dream that you had about me, which seems to show profound insight into the darker portions of my character.

I am going to be married again soon, probably in January, to Edith Finch who has been to see you occasionally at Boar’s Hill and is a friend of Rosalind and Toynbee and lived for many years at Bryn Mawr with Lucy Donnelly.

Yours ever,
B.R.
