BRACERS Record Detail for 50594
To access the original letter, email the Russell Archives.
Attached is a handwritten note. It details Patricia's shares of the royalties of Power (1/3), History of Western Philosophy (1/3) and Authority and the Individual (1/2). Patricia seeks royalty information for Authority and the Individual in which she has a half share. She has not seen the book. She and BR have been separated for some months. She asks whether any Swedish royalties have been paid to Constance Malleson from Patricia's share. She also wants to know in advance of any proposed reprints to help her in her financial planning.

Dear Sir Stanley,
I am sorry to trouble you in a matter which may embarrass you.
As you know, I had a considerable share in the preparation of the Reith Lectures, published by you as Authority and the Individual, and half the royalties thereon are payable to me under the contract.
My husband and I have been separated for some months, and I do not know
a. How many copies were printed and how many sold.
b. What arrangements were made for the payment of royalties. I gather that there was no advance.
I should be glad if you would inform me direct on these matters, and I should also be grateful if I might receive a complimentary copy of the book, which I have not yet seen.
Future royalties due to me should be paid direct to me, not into my bank. Some years ago Lord Russell contemplated an arrangement by which his Swedish royalties were to be paid direct to his friend Lady Constance Malleson, in Sweden. I do not know whether this arrangement was in fact carried out or whether it is still in force. If so, I must make clear that it should not apply to royalties which are my due and that any royalties which were my due which have been paid to Lady Constance should be refunded.
I should further be grateful if you would notify me directly of any proposed reprints etc. which may affect my income, as it will be difficult for me to arrange my expenditure without advance knowledge of what my income in any given year is to be, or at least the possibility of a rough estimate.
Yours sincerely,
<signed> Patricia Russell.
