Dear Unwin

This letter is about my son John. He is trying to find some job which would keep the wolf from the door and still enable him to get some writing done at week-ends. I thought it possible that he might be able to get some kind of work in connection with publishing. Although I am his father, I have, I think, a fairly accurate view of his capacities. He is naturally bookish; he knows a great many languages, including Japanese; he is very familiar with America, having had half his education there, and then worked in Washington in F.A.O., under Edward Lloyd, who, I know, thought very well of him; he has charm and agreeable manners, and produces a good impression at interviews or business conversations.

I shall be most grateful if you will let me know whether, in your opinion, there is any likelihood of his being able to get any sort of job in some publishing house.

Yours sincerely
Russell.
