BR TO ALLEN AND UNWIN / STANLEY UNWIN, 14 MAR. 1945
BRACERS 48029. ALS(X). George Allen and Unwin Ltd.
Proofread by K. Blackwell

March 14, 1945

Dear Unwin

I am deeply distressed to find that I must have made an inexcusable muddle about the Canadian rights in my History. I have looked up the contract with Simon and Schuster, and find that it definitely assigned the Canadian rights to them. I have not got here the papers relative to my agreement with you, but from what you say I must have forgotten what I had promised them. What would you wish me to do? Should I repay part of your very generous advance? I am at a loss to know what should be done, as I suppose you would gain nothing by sending me to prison! I do not know how I came to make such a muddle.

Yours apologetically
Bertrand Russell.
