Dear Warder

I am sorry I could give you no address but Harvard, as it caused delay. I go there on Sp. 30; till then, I shall be at

The Bell and Clapper
Phoenixville, Pa.

Various points: (1) I seem, in the hurry of leaving California, to have sent you a letter meant for Unwin. I meant to suggest that the English proofs could be read over there, because of submarines; I meant to read your proofs myself. (2) Index. I will get some pupil to do it when I get page proofs. (3) Date of publication. I note what you say, which I had forgotten. (4) Title page. I presume your feelings would be shared by average Americans, who don’t understand irony. As to your objection to fighting my case outside the Courts, you have apparently failed to note that your Courts have denied me the right to plead in them. I acquiesce, with great reluctance, in your wishes. In future, I shall omit all jokes from the American editions of my books, and shall put a note in the Preface: “For jokes, the reader is referred to the English edition.”

Yours sincerely
Bertrand Russell.
