Dear Warder
Thank you for your letter of June 27, with enclosures giving Roosevelt on liberalism. Every foreigner coming to America has to undertake solemnly not to assassinate the President, and as the pen is mightier than the sword, I suppose this extends also to verbal assassination. I will therefore add a footnote explaining the difference between liberalism in Europe and ditto in USA. I won’t alter the phrase, because, to all Europeans, it says what I mean. But I will give an explanation which, in any case, would be desirable for American readers.
$300 is a very satisfactory fee from the Atlantic Monthly. By the time it is to be paid I shall presumably be in America.
Yours sincerely
Bertrand Russell.
