Dear Warder

Thank you for your letter of Apr. 23. Re the book of my parents’ papers, there is a slight delay, because the Nonesuch Press consider that we have included too much, and we think of getting a arbitrator to help in making excisions. From your point of view as well as theirs, shortening is desirable — at present there are about 400,000 words — but from ours it is difficult. I hope you can assent to 360000, which the Nonesuch Press will accept.

Apart from the 2 short introductory chapters which I sent you, the book consists of letters and journals, with only short explanatory notes by us. There are all details about my birth! and discussions as to whether I should be called Galahad.

I enclose the raw material for a blurb, but please work it up as you think fit. I have not mentioned in the blurb that my mother was a pioneer feminist, and addressed meetings in favour of votes for women, for which she incurred much ridicule. Add this if you think fit.a

I can’t arrange about pictures yet, but I will as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely
Bertrand Russell.
