Dear Warder

Thank you for your letter of Oct. 4 and for the cheque for $1013. It seems to me that in these times 2000 is quite a good number of copies to have sold by the day of publication. Both the reviews you send are very gratifying. I don’t think the typographical errors were serious; the only one that could possibly matter was chance for change in the preface. Allen and Unwin made a much worse mistake: they omitted the last word but one in the preface, and had to add an erratum slip to put it right. Some mistakes are sure to occur. I hope they are sending you the very numerous additions to the Index that are to be made in a reprint.

So far, I have seen only one English review, by Hammond, in the New Statesman2very favourable, which I am glad of, as he has worked much and admirably on the early nineteenth century in England.

I shall look forward to seeing further reviews when you can send them.

Yours sincerely
Bertrand Russell
