Your letter of July 17 has just reached me. I agree with what you say about the Preface, and enclose a paragraph to be added just before the last one. I think this paragraph will be a definite improvement. You can put the 2 underlined words in large type if you like.a

I have as yet no proof of the bibliography, which will go in the same sheet as the index, so that I suppose a little delay doesn’t matter.

The new blurb you send me seems to me admirable. Don’t ever feel any need to placate me when you make criticisms or suggestions: I always reply with complete frankness, but (so far as my conscious self is concerned) without any prickliness or feeling of wounded vanity.
