Dear Norton,
Thank you very much for your cheque for $19.00 received to-day. I hope you did not think me very grasping.
It is nice to think that you and Mrs. Norton will be on the dock when I reach New York early in October, and it will be a great pleasure to me to come to you when I first land, if you can endure the bustle that always occurs during my first day or two in America.
I was very glad indeed to get your letter about a week ago saying that you like the book. I shall continue to hope that we may meet while you are in Europe in the summer until it becomes clear that it is impossible.
I enclose a letter which I do not know how to answer. I should propose, if you are willing, to leave it in your hands. Any answer that seems to you right will satisfy me.
Yours very sincerely,
