Thursday mg. in the train.

It is difficult to write much, not only because the train shakes appallingly but because W.M. Fletcher (Mrs Acland’s brother in law and Senior Tutor at Trinity) is sitting opposite. I had a great rush to get off this morning, but managed to return 4 sheets of proof to the Press. Old Mason, the chief man in charge of the printing, is a great character, and patronizes mere authors charmingly. I enjoyed seeing him again.

I lunch at Hampstead and then go to the Whiteheads. Tomorrow I dine with the George Trevys. Saturday I return to Cambridge. — Balfour has been writing on Bergson in the Hibbert. Birds of a feather.

Maitland’s collected essays are published. I think they would be interesting. He was a very great man.

Now I must stop. Goodbye my Darling. I do hope you are getting rested at Meran. Please let me know exactly how you are.
