Dear Amethe,

Thank you very much for your birthday letter. I am touched by your troubling to write when you are in such pain and such distress about your pending operation. Both Edith and I are deeply sorry that you should have so much trouble and pain and difficulty. We both send you our warmest good wishes and love. And I shall send vol. II, as I had meant to do, by this same post.
