| 25068 | "In Has Man a Future, when I say that authoritative American experts do not consider that Britain seriously contributes to Western military strength, I am quoting primarily the opinion of Dr. Herman Kahn. In his book On Thermonuclear War you can find references to similar statements by many American strategists and military leaders. I read in the papers about the Birmingham University debate on unilateralism, and was most interested in the result. Leading powers among the uncommitted nations, e.g. Egypt, India and Yugoslavia have made it quite clear on many occasions, the latest being the Belgrade Conference, that they seek to strengthen the position of nations who refuse to be tied to the power politics of either military bloc. It is perfectly true, however, that the leaders of these countries have not publicly supported British unilateralism. In Mr. Nehru's case, for example, I know this is because he is unwilling to appear to interfere in the internal affairs of another country." |
