"Thursday". "I haven't time to finish ordinary weekly letter Friday shall post it from Winchelsea on Saturday ... yr. brother has asked me to write weekly letter while he is at Telegraph Hill."

This is possibly her letter for the period up to 9 August (document .054830, record 79625)—in which case this letter would have been written on 8 August.

The letter contains messages from Ottoline Morrell and Helen Dudley. Although not a formal message, Rinder writes that "Dorothy Wrinch says you will never love her again ..."; this comment is in regard to the philosophy books.

W. GLADYS RINDER TO BR, [8 AUG. 1918]
BRACERS 79622. ALS. McMaster
Proofread by K. Blackwell

Thursday

Dear BR,

Just had line from Miss D. asking me to “simply say hospital work is too much for me and I’ve decided to go home sometime this month so a months notice is plenty for me”. She says say nothing about injections, its so boring but I can’t now rewrite my letter, I’m late as it is! She just read proof R to F and “loves the part about socialism and art.” — By the way Dorothy Wrinch says you’ll never love her again as the philos. books never arrived, though she’s written frantic letters. Also just had a line from Lady O. who wants me to say “I have lost my copy of Philosophical Essays, I feel hysterically unhappy about it . You gave it to me at Studland. — My second self. Millie thinks I sent it to you as you wanted it. Is this true. It would be a great relief if it were so — I vaguely remember something of the sort?” — End. By the way if I haven’t time to finish ordinary weekly letter Friday shall post it from Winchelsea on Sat. so it might be one post later. You see I’ve v. little news for it at this moment! Find this so much nicer. Cousens and D.M. came here on Tues.; he has been tilting with Orage in New Age over review by that curious C.O.-homo-sexual novel. Can’t remember its name, but I think the author makes a mistake in labelling virtues and vices! masculine and feminine and obliterated to some extent using that theory to prove that her characters are homo-sexual. The reviewer was absurd but Orage won’t take a quite good letter of Cousens on Leonardo da Vinci in reply.

E.E. or 3 bottles port is just too good! I shall not put it in memorandum! Share you feeling about hypocricy <sic>, feel hatefully like clergyman myself at times! Yr. bro. has asked me to write weekly letter while he’s at T.H, will say this formally in letter!! Its lovely to think you’ll be free in Sept. wish it were before. Mrs Hob. says directly she knows definite date release will see what she can do with Milner re calling up etc. I’ll discuss this with Ld. R at T.H. on 16.

Best of Good wishes
