Dear Mrs. Holden,
I have not written to you previously about Jackie because we were always hoping that we should hear that you were coming back. It seems from a letter from my husband, however, that you are unlikely to be here for Christmas.
We shall be sending you Jackie’s full report in about a week’s time, and in the meantime I thought you would just like to know that her health has been good all through the term and that during the last part of the term her general attitude has been getting steadily more peaceable and her work more concentrated. One has to remember always with Jackie that she is really a very clever child and one cannot expect her, therefore, to be very stable in her early years. Quiet and a regular life and steady work will, I hope, show her where her gifts really lie and make her steady enough to use them well.
We have now an arrangement by which Jackie gets a riding lesson often three times and usually twice a week. The blacksmith has her own pony in hand and she rides hera constantly. Another pony is brought at the same time and the other children also get lessons.
With kind regards and best wishes for Christmas,
Yours sincerely,
<signed> Dora Russell.
