Dear Celeste,

What creatures doctors are! I have always heard that the Viennese doctors were among the best in the world, but it does not seem very bright of them to have given you all that scare of scarlet fever for nothing. I shall have no qualms whatever about receiving Jackie in the school whenever you choose to bring her, in view of the fact that she has not really had scarlet fever.

We are now at last entirely free from quarantine. John was our last case, and nobody caught it from him, so when you bring Jackie the usual routine will be re-established. I shall be glad to see her again, as, although I cannot pretend that she is a saint, I am very fond of her, and I must say that in my personal dealings with her, I have always found her well-behaved.

Dora is away from the school this term, but I hope that when you come with Jackie you will be able to stay the night at Battine, which would give a chance of some conversation.
