Dear Mrs. Holden,
Your letter to my wife was opened by me, as my wife is at present in America.
Now that I am at home I can give you all the particulars that you desire. There will be a vacancy for your daughter, but the end of May is not altogether a desirable time to put her in the school, as the term ends at the end of June and then there is a long summer holiday. We do undertake to provide care for children during the holidays, if parents so desire, and at Christmas and Easter quite a number of children stay here, but during the summer months there will, I think, be few if any. We would, however, make arrangements for the care of your child during the holidays, which last from June 30th to September 20th, if you would wish it. The charge during the holidays is 2½ guineas (13 dollars) per week.
The only thing we require in the way of reference is a doctor’s certificate stating that the child is not sub-normal either mentally or physically.
My wife will be in America until about the 1st March. Her address is c/o Wm. B. Feakins, Times Building, N.Y.C.
I enclose a prospectus. I shall be glad to have your daughter if you decide to send her.
Yours sincerely,
<signed> Bertrand Russell.
