Dear Perry,
I am writing to you about my son John, who is at Harvard (Eliot House), as I cannot find out exactly what his position is in regard to the draft, or whether there is any way by which he can get a degree in less than the usual time. He was 20 last November; he spent two years at the University of California, and came to Harvard in October with the standing of a Junior. He is anxious to do his public duty, but would naturally be glad if he could get some kind of a degree first. Neither he nor I have taken out first papers, and I cannot find out, either from the British Consul or otherwise, what his legal position is. Is there any one at Harvard whose business it is to advise students on these matters?
My wife and I hope to come to Cambridge for the first week-end in February or last in January, i.e. Jan. 30 to Feb 2. We should be very glad if we could see you some time during those days. Could you lunch with us at the Commander Hotel on one of those days?
Yours very sincerely
Bertrand Russell.
