BR TO RALPH BARTON PERRY, 10 JULY 1912

Dear Professor Perry

It is a very real regret to me that I have missed you; I would have avoided it if I could possibly have managed it. I do not believe the divergences between your realism and mine are really serious; a little discussion, I believe, would keep us in substantial agreement. I shall look forward eagerly to the new book by the “Six”. Thank you very much for your unforeseen kindness in sending me William James’s Radical Empiricism, which I found on reaching home today.

I do not know anything of Hoernlé beyond his publications; I have heard him well spoken of, but have never met him. The only people I could speak of from personal knowledge would generally be people who had been at Cambridge. It is very kind of you to speak again of my going to Harvard; I think for one term I could go — more than that I should hardly like to demand of Trinity. Probably the time I could manage most easily would be from about March 25 onwards; not this next year, but the year after that. I might be able to come immediately after Xmas, but it would not be so easy to arrange with my work here. Short of circumstances I could be pretty sure of being able to come for a term either in the spring of 1914 or in 1915, as Harvard might prefer.

Please remember me to Mrs Perry.

Sincerely yours
Bertrand Russell.
