Cher Monsieur

C’est avec beaucoup de plaisir que j’ai reçu votre lettre du 10 Septembre : il y avait trop longtemps que nous ne nous avions^b pas écrit. Je ne vous blâme nullement pour votre propagande, qui me paraît être d’une grande utilité. Mais je regrette naturellement l’intérêt que j’avais en recevant vos lettres sur les sujets qui m’occupaient.

Je serais venu à Heidelberg si je n’étais pas allé à Rome, mais il me semblait que j’en aurais trop en assistant à deux congrès si près l’un de l’autre. Je regrette beaucoup d’avoir manqué l’occasion de vous revoir.

Mes travaux marchent bien. J’espère que dans environ un an le livre que Whitehead et moi nous écrivons ensemble sera prêt à imprimer. Ce sera un assez gros livre ; personne ne le lira.

Présentez, je vous prie, mes hommages et les meilleurs souvenirs de ma femme à Madame Couturat, et croyez moi, cher Monsieur, votre bien dévoué

Dear Sir

It is with great pleasure that I receive your letter of 10 September; it has been too long since we wrote. I don’t blame you at all for your propaganda, which seems to me very useful. But I naturally ?? the interest that I used to have in receiving your letters on topics which preoccupied me. I would have come to Heidelberg if I were not going to Rome, but it seems to me that it will be too much to attend two congresses so close to one another. I very much regret having to miss the opportunity of seeing you again. My work goes well. I hope that in almost a year the book which Whitehead and I have been writing together will be ready for publication. It will be a very big book; no-one will read it. Please give my respects and the regards of my wife to Mme Couturat, and believe me,
