Dear Margaret
The George Trevelyan’s boy died suddenly of appendicitis — it is dreadful for them. I am very sorry not to have managed to come up today, but as term is just beginning and my first lecture is today, I really couldn’t manage it. I addressed a Women’s Lib. meeting at Ely on A.S.3 yesterday, and on the way home converted Mrs Bernard Shaw, who all but promised to join. She is rich and generous. Tomorrow I address a small gathering of sympathisers and doubters in John’s (undergraduates). Most days I shall be addressing some one. I am very busy as usual.
I have heard nothing about Lady Carlisle, and I know nothing of Morpeth4 beyond what was in the papers.
Have you seen Hugh Meredith’s poems? I think some of them very good indeed. They have the passion of democracy. Others are in some ways offensive — but all are strong.
Yours aff.
Bertrand Russell.
