After being baked for 2 days, we started at 6.30 this morning to walk over a pass 7000 odd feet high, the one next east of the Brenner, and we have got caught in a snowstorm. We are waiting in the Inn at the top for it to stop. We sleep tonight at a place called St. Jacob — tomorrow I don’t know about. This is excellent country for walking — everybody walks here, and the inns are cheap and comfortable. But just now we are wet and rather chilled.

We had descended into a sunny southern valley, after a second soaking.
