Dear Peter

I have given careful consideration to what you say in your letter of July 5, but I do not see how we can at present make a success of again trying to live in the same house. During the last weeks before you decided that you wished to live apart, my hope of harmony was destroyed by various actions of yours, culminating in involving Conrad in our disagreements. I should be afraid that similar causes of disagreement would arise again. I see no reason why we should not occasionally meet as friends without discussing the past, but in present circumstances I cannot persuade myself that an attempt to live in the same house would be wise.

It is very desirable to reach a financial agreement, and I should like to know your opinion of the offer that Tylor made to your lawyer.
