Dear Dora
I have now had long letters from both John and Kate about John’s affairs. John’s state of mind causes us very great anxiety, as it seems not very sane. But I don’t think there is anything we can do for him beyond being generally sympathetic and kind. I note that he still thinks possible he may marry Jacky, which might be the best thing.1 Perhaps he will work through to something good, when the excitement has died down. I feel that Kate, being on the spot, can do more for him than we can. As for his wish to reconcile you and me, I think we may consider ourselves sufficiently reconciled to satisfy him. For the rest we can only hope that he will work out his own salvation.
Yours
B.R.

he may marry Jacky, which might be the best thing Although he married within the year, it was not to a Jacky. She might have been Jacquie Holden, a pupil at Beacon Hill School contemporaneous with John.
