ON BOARD S.S. “CELTIC”.
Sat. 22 March 1924
My Darling Love1 —
I find we call at Queenstown so I can write from there. This ridiculous boat is lying in the river at Liverpool till late at night, after starting off with a great fuss — it has to wait for the tide — there are very few passengers. It is hateful going away from you, and from John and Kate — it is worse for you because I shall be so busy — But the time won’t be long. I am very well and shall be a giant after 9 days at sea.
Your father turned up at Euston. He was just as usual and urged me to speak at his favourite dining clubs in New York — but I feel like the bus conductora who said “legs is no treat to me” — dining clubs are no treat to me.
I wonder every minute what you are doing and whether you are keeping up your spirits properly. You were so dear and lovely these last days — O my Heart I do love you so much so much.
Your
B.
