My dearest Colette

I have just got your note about Hansson,2 and have written to him. You are quite right that the letter had to come from me. I hope he will act.

Yes, Lynton3 does seem long ago! I feel a Rip van Winkle — I remember minutely the Queen’s first Jubilee,4 60 years ago, and dimly the Russo-Turkish war,5 70 years ago.

I hope with all my heart we shall meet in the coming year.  All my love.

    your note about Hansson Colette’s letter of 15 December 1947 (BRACERS 113263). In it she suggests that BR contact his publisher Johan Hansson directly.

    Lynton There is no mention of Lynton in the edited version of Colette’s letter of 15 December (BRACERS 113263). Colette, BR, and Clifford Allen vacationed together at Lynton during the Christmas holidays in the years following the First World War.

    Queen’s first Jubilee Queen Victoria’s first Jubilee was her Golden, celebrating 50 years on the throne, in 1887.

    Russo-Turkish war (1877–78). BR was born in 1872. This speaks to the importance of politics even in BR’s early upbringing.
