My Beloved
Your telegram came4 — a thousand thanks — I am just waiting for C.A.5 and then we go to Marlow6 after tea, returning Monday — I may be free for dinner — I shall know when I see him — anyhow Monday at about 10 at the Attic.7
I long for you my dear one — The times are gloomy and nothing but you is strong enough to fight against the gloom inside me. I feel less hope for the world than ever before — I mean for the near future — I think by the time you are old things will be better, but hardly in my lifetime. But one can’t tell — there are always possibilities of better things.
Dear one, I keep hearing your voice and feeling your arms round me and your lips on mine — and it keeps me serene deep down — Goodbye my Life —
