"My Dearest Loved One—This is only one line to bring my love to you—I am so longing for tonight that I can't sit still—"

[Letter is not signed.]

This letter was dated 29 November 1917 by Malleson. However, facts in this letter do not match Colette's letter of the same day. She writes that she will be waiting for BR at Isola Bella at 8; he writes that he will pick her up at 6:30. It also does not match in mood: he says she is unhappy, her letter is obviously very happy. The better date for it is 12 November 1917; on 11 November he asked her when he should call for her for dinner, and the mood fits.

My dearest Loved one

This is only one line to bring my love to you. I am so longing for tonight that I can’t sit still. This has been a long weary time — I do want to be able to make you feel all the love I have for you, and all the longing for you to live fully and freely and deeply —

My dear, my dear, I love you — I want to fold you round with tenderness — It hurts so much to see you not happy that it is dreadful —

6.30 I shall come for you. My life, my heart, my very soul.

[date] Colette wrote “29 Nov. 1917” on the letter, but even she was not sure of the date. However, facts in the letter do not fit that date. On 29 November (BRACERS 113098) she writes that she will be waiting for him at Isola Bella at 8; in this letter he writes that he will pick her up at 6.30. It also does not match in mood. He says she is unhappy, yet her 29 November letter is obviously very happy (BRACERS 113098). The better date for it is 12 November 1917; on 11 November (BRACERS 19241) he asked her when he should call for her for dinner. And the mood fits.
