My Beloved

Your dear little letter came this morning. It was a great joy to get it.  I shall think of you continually till we meet again3 — longing to know everything.

My dearest loved one, since our day of day-dreams4 I have realized more than ever how I cling to you and how deeply you are rooted in my heart. I want you to be always growing freely, and with the utmost happiness that one can have in such a world. And I know that there is no limit to the difference you make in my life — and you will make more and more as years go by — always in perfect and absolute freedom. I love what you are in yourself — I love the generosity of your love — when it goes to others too, not only when it comes to me — I love your fearlessness, and your pride when you are unhappy — and your belief in liberty is an endless happiness to me.  Dear one, I feel a perfect comradeship with you, spiritually and physically. I long to be free to give far more than I have been able to give yet — endless treasures of tenderness and devotion which can’t be given in odd moments between committees and meetings.

Goodbye my Darling, my heart’s Joy. My very soul is yours.
