My Beloved
It was dreadful to see you so unhappy last night. I longed to be able to comfort you, but I did not know how I could. I want very very much to be told as much as you can tell of how it develops — My loved one, in spite of your unhappiness, it was a wonderful joy to me to feel free to let my love go out to you — it is dreadful when it is imprisoned. All through these last weeks, my love has been growing underneath, because you have been so angelic. Dear one, you know my heart is with you in your trouble — I would smooth away every tiniest sorrow from your life if I could do it without making you insensitive. Your love is so warm and so wonderful — it brings me wonderful happiness when I can let it sink into me. — I hate the thought of all the long time you will be in B’ham.3 Goodbye my dearest, my Beloved.
B.
