My Darling Love
Your dear letter came this morning and was a great joy. I feel sure now that it is not necessary for me to withdraw from you inwardly — all that is necessary is to arrange the externals so as to suit work — I don’t get on with work unless I have times of merely vegetating — eating, sleeping, walking, neither feeling nor thinking, except in some dumb underground way. Here I find myself perfectly happy — everything that usually interests me is forgotten — bathing and silly jokes and lying on the rocks listening to the sea fill up the hours easily. I think North and Eric are enjoying themselves very much. Eric is delicate, and it is doing him good. We all have very red noses! Tomorrow we go to the Lizard, Wed. to Penzance, Th. to the Scilly Isles, Fri. back to Penzance, Sat. to Lockeridge. The only address I can give you is Post Office, Penzance.
I am sorry about your Italian teacher. Do engage another. It is too bad you should miss the chance. I wonder how you will like Bussy’s portrait. I saw one of Ray which was clever I supposed, but gave me no pleasure — but I dare say it ought to have.
I am already quite sure that as far as I am concerned it would be only good to see you for a day any time that suits you after I get back from here. All that I need avoid is a daily life that interferes with work. I really think it would be better not to put it off till quite the end of the month. After my time here I shall be in such a happy mood that I feel sure I could make you feel happier. Darling, I am sure nothing need be broken — only, when I get too overwrought, I must keep away till I am rested. That of course will happen again — but it need not be a tragedy another time. Goodbye Darling.
Your
B
