My Darling Darling

Your dear letter of Friday is here and I have just found it. It is pathetic and interesting about your circus-rider. Yes, you ought to give much sympathy — it is your work. I really never grudged your giving sympathy to others — I only minded when you seemed to have none for me. I had many feelings of a kind it was hard for you to sympathize with, but now I have much fewer of them. — I am so glad you are full of new life and gladness and love — I have been out of touch with gentle things all this time — the working mood is not gentle — it is a mood that leads me astray in all action and feeling outside work. But it is over now. I long to give you a more understanding and tender love than in the past, Dearest. But of course the fierce mood will have to come back I suppose, in time. All that you say about Vittoz interests me very much; he must be a wonderful man, and most wise.

What you say about Lion’s remark is much what I supposed. I don’t mind what people think about Satty F.2

The Lowell Institute won’t have “the place of good and evil in the universe” because by the terms of the trust lectures are not allowed to question the authority of Scripture! But I can give them the same stuff as “The scope and limits of scientific method” — perhaps the need of some restraint will improve it. I long to get under way with it.

Now I must go to Hampstead to lunch with Margaret. Only 2 more days now! Dearest your love is such a strength and joy and inspiration to me.

Your
B
