My Darling Darling

Two letters from you this morning were a great joy — and I was glad to know nothing had happened except Mrs Chadbourne. I do hope these last days will really rest you — it has been a tiring time I know. I am so longing for you Dearest. — No, it wouldn’t do for me to “eliminate” those vague feelings — in the end I learn from them. I do “eliminate” them for a time, sometimes for a long time, but if there is any real basis for them they go on underground — it is the eliminating that makes me explosive. What was at the bottom of my feelings was the need for greater self-dependence — I think I have got that now.

I shall be seeing the Whiteheads in London, and if you are back I shall be able to see you — I needn’t spend all my time with them. I have arranged with Wittgenstein to see his mother in London on the 18th — it is only lunch, so if you are back it won’t interfere much. After the 18th I have made no engagements. I couldn’t help Wittgenstein’s mother as she arrives the 17th.

North has got a 3rd — I haven’t seen him as he is gone but I fear it is a blow.

The two people I was interested in in philosophy — Smith and Dorward — have both got firsts, Dorward with distinction. I like Dorward very much, and am glad. Mathcs. is not out yet. — Politics are dreadful — the Marconi business seems unending.

I am glad you won’t mind my reading some of my stuff to you — yet I am full of fears that you won’t see anything in it. However, speriamo.

I didn’t forget about Bergson. I asked Carr, who says he spoke without notes — that there was only a short report — but B. is going to write it out and then it will be published. — Yes people limited like Nurse to personal things are very trying — she has some wider outlook in suffrage however. — My philosophers were the Aristotelian.

Don’t be afraid of hurting me Darling — I am not in the mood to be hurt, and I don’t believe you are in the mood that hurts. I must stop now. Tonight I am at the Phillimores — then in London, except Sat. night when I shall be back here, so on Friday please address here, other days to London. Goodbye my Darling. It is not long now. All my soul hungers for you.

Your
B
