My Darling Love

Your dear dear birthday letter reached me today — it gave me such happiness Darling. Your letters are such a joy to me Dearest. I am sorry you have such a dreadful headache — I hope it will get better when your Lady gets better. — I have been working all the morning, a really ferocious bit of work, the analysis of our knowledge of time. Now I am dizzy with it and haven’t an idea in my head — and in 10 minutes I have to go out to lunch, and then Sanger is coming — so I must be quick. I shan’t write again till tomorrow evening, because I don’t think you get a letter written Sat. night any sooner. Miss Stawell is coming tomorrow to tea to argue philosophy. She is not very good — she has sent me masses of notes on my little book — she always lets desire run away with her in philosophy. But I shall enjoy seeing her again.

The book you mentioned by Hugh Walpole is not in the Union but I got another book of his which seems interesting. — You wouldn’t believe how many difficulties there are in our knowledge of time — my head reels with them — everybody is in a muddle, and the muddles are made an excuse for nonsense, as in Bergson and most philosophers. I have got things much clearer than they normally are, but I am not sure I have got to the bottom of the question.

Now my time is up. Goodbye my Darling. All my deepest love is always with you.

Your
B

I meant to write to J. for her birthday. I am so sorry I didn’t. Work has put everything out of my head.
