My Darling
This must be only one line to reach you tomorrow morning. I am just off to Leith Hill after a delirious whirl of proofs and letters in my flat. I may have difficulty in writing at Shiffolds and in any case probably nothing would reach you 1st post Monday. So don’t be surprised if nothing comes. I am so very sorry you got nothing yesterday morning. I think my letter of the morning before reached you at night.
Mrs Bob is expecting a child, so the Whiteheads tell me. I had not known it.
I am quite happy again now and you will not again find me so tiresome.
Lucy Silcox wants me to lunch Jan. 4 and the Hammonds want me to dine 5th or 8th. Shall I accept Lucy Silcox? It is not one of your free days is it? Shall I accept Hammonds for 8th or refuse both? Tell me whether it is worth while to refuse.
I have long had a great wish to tell Lucy Silcox about you. What is your feeling? I would give the merest word. That could lead to your knowing her. She is sweet and good and full of universal love. But I am not set on it if you have any feeling the other way.
Darling I have no time for more. My utmost love goes out to you. You need not fear my coming to love you in any the least unworthy way. I would break sooner, but indeed there is no danger. I bless you every moment and yearn to you.
Your
B.
