My Darling

Your dear little letter has just come. Yes our talks do mean a very great deal to us both, don’t they? They make one’s purpose living and strong.

I am terribly busy — a very difficult batch of proofs, a difficult lecture this afternoon, Ogden coming to talk business, Gilbert Murray to lunch, perhaps Dickinson afterwards. So I mustn’t write much of a letter. Under Western Eyes seems to me less good than the old Conrads. I am not much interested so far. — Last night I had a pleasant talk with Hill and his Hungarian, who is a physiologist like Hill — we talked science and politics alternately. I am fond of Hill, but he wouldn’t interest you, I don’t know why — there is a lack of quality and a certain commonplaceness. I don’t know yet whether Dickinson is coming Saturday. Shall I ask no one else if not? I really can’t think of any one. There are people you would like if you knew them — Bevan for instance — but they would all be shy and dull at a first meeting. I dare say people will turn up unexpectedly. I believe Sheppard would interest you.

I may not have time to write tonight. I shall reach the flat about 10.30 tomorrow and get my charwoman out of the place long before you come —

Goodbye Dearest Love — I am sorry to write such a wretched scrap but I am frightfully busy. I love you I love you I love you.

Your
B
