Friday evg.1, 2

My Darling Darling

What a divine day it was, in spite of your being ill and headachy. I am afraid it must have been tiring to you, tho’. I cannot tell you how profoundly one with you I feel. I don’t yet understand fully what I was feeling today — it was some reaching out after something I have not attained to — I shall know it when I attain to it. Dearest, you give me such intensity of joy as I can hardly bear.

I caught the 5 o’clock without taking a cab and with a minute to spare. E.M. Forster dined with me, so I had to catch either that or the 5.5. Mrs Whitehead goes to Manchester this week-end, and comes here Tuesday, so I shall see her without going to London. And so if Friday turns out possible for you, I shall be free. And Monday morning I shall come anyhow. — I am very sleepy and have several other letters to write,3 so I must stop. Goodbye my Beloved, my Ottoline.

B
